Saint-Maarten, the relaxed rhythm of life in the heart of the Caribbean

Discover Saint Maarten, a pearl of the Lesser Antilles and an island on a human scale with its unique character. A French territory, its resolutely Caribbean flavour is reflected in its unbelievable natural setting and in its unrivalled laid-back lifestyle.

The island of Saint-Maarten is split in two: in the South is the Dutch half, which serves as the economic lungs of the island. It is also the place where the Air France flights to Saint-Maarten land. It only takes a few minutes to reach the French part of the island, in the North. There you will find the largest concentration of beaches in Saint-Maarten, which welcome you into a heavenly setting that favours leisure and relaxation.

Marigot, the main town in the French section, seduces with its charming streets, and its boutiques and restaurants of international reputation. A journey to Saint Maarten will allow you to wander down the rue de la République with its superb facades from the 19th century. Climb up to Fort Saint Louis to appreciate the panoramic view that extends to the neighbouring island of Anguilla. Below, a market with multi-coloured stalls, full of spices and tropical fruits, comes to life every Wednesday and Saturday.

Looking for a hike in the Caribbean? Paradise Peak, reaching 424 metres, offers numerous hiking paths open to walkers. Loterie Farm is another essential site to visit: this former sugar plantation is today a nature reserve, which testifies to the extraordinary biodiversity of Saint Maarten.

Your stay in Saint-Maarten wouldn't be complete without a visit to Grand-Case. This floral village has conserved its charm, while at the same time making room for numerous gastronomic restaurants that open come nightfall. To the north of the island, the hamlet of Cul-de-sac is the departure point of magical expeditions to the islets of Tintamarre and Pinet, with their abundant nature and unbelievably crystalline waters.
