The Picasso Museum has the largest and best collection of works by the young Picasso, especially works produced between 1895 and 1904, when the artist lived in Barcelona. His relationships with Catalan artists and intellectuals, which centred on the legendary Els Quatre Gats café, are reflected here in a series of magnificent works.
This period played an important role in his life and influenced much of his later work. The exhibition ‘Latest Donations and Acquisitions' presents, for the first time, a selection of works and documents that have come into the possession of the museum in recent years.
One part was already known, such as the works coming from the David Douglas Duncan collection, but others are completely new to us, particularly those from the collections of Gustavo Gili, Gili-Torra, and Brigitte Baer.
